Community Gardens

Gardening as a community has long been an enjoyable and productive way for neighbors to connect with others who enjoy producing their own food and growing extra for those who need help.
If you don’t have a suitable location, adequate soils or all the time needed to attend to your plot, or you simply enjoy the company of others while digging in the dirt, consider joining or forming a community garden.

community garden

Communities chose to garden together for many differing reasons:
1. access to a sunny, suitable plot
2. knowledge and confidence in skills needed
3. enjoy getting more involved with neighbors or other community members

Individuals and families may chose to garden for different reasons too:
•   Sell produce for money
•   Personal consumption in season and preserving
•   Donate food to others
•   Outdoor fresh air, exercise, sunshine!
•   Save money on grocery bill

To help these gardens operate on a tight budget, we plan to assist them with your donations; we are still looking for:
- Hoses, hand tools, seed, fencing, hoses, hand tools
- Deliveries of mulch/ soil/ hay
- Construction of raised beds, signs, compost bins.
carteretlocalfood@gmail.com or 729-6513 to donate!
